In 2006 (more or less) the condition was diagnosed at
Tripler Army Hospital here in Honolulu.
The IQ test that was part of the diagnostic procedure placed me in the
top percentile of people my age.
My Doctor said that meant that I should be dead before I
needed help with my check book.
Now I am seventy six and confused – unless I slow
(everything) to a very slow snail’s pace and stay cool.
Shortly after the diagnosis and implementation of the
medication (which I liken in my mind to LSD for seniors – though I haven’t
taken LSD or any other “recreational drugs”)
Soon after learning the skinny I realized that it was not
that the information was gone, but rather that the synapses that accessed it were
not working; so the info in my mind could not be accessed.
I began to consciously seek new synapses.
Starting with a random early memory I developed a new set of
mnemonic devices. This blossomed into a
new garden of memory.
